The French residence permit for financially independent persons is granted if you have your own or rented accommodation on the territory of the state and have sufficient funds for living. French residence permit for the FIP can be renewed an unlimited number of times. Holders of this type of residence permit are not allowed to work for an employer in France.

Who are financially independent persons?

Financially Independent Persons for this program are considered to have sufficient financial settlement to stay in France for at least one year. The amount of financial security must be equal or exceed the minimum annual salary minus tax in the country.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the residence permit of France as a FIP, applicant must meet below requirements:

  • proof of financial settlement
  • sufficient income to cover the costs of living
  • be over 18 years old
  • have no criminal record
  • rent or purchase real estate in France
  • take out a health insurance

Benefits of the program

  • No permanent residency requirement to maintain status
  • Entitled to gain permanent residence after 5 years
  • After 10 years of residence in the country, you can apply for a French passport
  • Free movement in the Schengen area
