Provincial Nominee Programs

Nearly every province and territory of Canada has its own immigration “streams” and related requirements. Launched in 1998, Provincial Nominee Program pathway has been a popular solution for the students, business people, skilled workers, and semi-skilled workers to get their Canadian residency and eventually citizenship. As such, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows Canadian provinces and territories to nominate immigration applicants who are interested in settling in a particular province. The only exceptions are the Northern Canada territory of Nunavut and Quebec. However, the province of Quebec has its own selection criteria for economic immigration. Each PNP has at least one immigration stream, aka 'enhanced nomination’, that is aligned with the federal Express Entry immigration selection system which essentially guarantees a permanent residence invitation.

The other way to obtain permanent residence through the PNP is under a 'base' stream. In this stream, you apply to a PNP stream directly and after obtaining a provincial nomination, the federal government will process your permanent residence application. There are more than 80 provincial immigration streams available and choosing the best option is much easier by the help of Official Immigration and Citizenship Consultants. How you will apply depends on which Provincial Nominee Program stream you’re applying to. You might need to apply using the paper-based process or by the online process through Express Entry.
